Interstitial nephritis can be divided into acute interstitial nephritis and
chronic interstitial nephritis. Here, we will talk about the causes of acute
interstitial nephritis and chronic interstitial nephritis.
Acute Interstitial Nephritis Causes
1. Drugs: antibiotics and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and
analgesics, anti-seizure drugs, diuretics, proton pump inhibitors, etc.
2. Infection: bacteria, viruses, parasites and mycoplasma, chlamydia,
etc.
3. Autoimmune diseases: systemic lupus erythematosus (sle), sarcoidosis,
mixed cold globulin hematic disease, ANCA associated vasculitis, etc.
4. Malignant tumor: lymphoma, leukemia, multiple myeloma, light chain
deposition disease, etc.(Learn About: Factors that Affect Prognosis of Glomerulonephritis)
5. Metabolic disease: diabetes, high uric acid hematic disease;
6. Idiopathic acute interstitial nephritis.
Chronic Interstitial Nephritis Causes
1. Genetic disease: such as familial interstitial nephritis, polycystic
kidney disease, medullary cystic lesion and hereditary nephritis;
2. Drug-induced kidney disease: kidney damage caused by some drugs, such as
non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, aristolochic acid drugs, ciclosporin and
cisplatin, etc.
3. Urinary tract disease: obstructive nephropathy, reflux nephropathy;
4. Infectious diseases: chronic pyelonephritis caused by a variety of
pathogens;
5. Heavy metal poisoning: such as lead, cadmium, lithium intoxication;
6. Physical damage: such as radioactive kidney disease;
7. Systemic disease: autoimmune disease (systemic lupus erythematosus and
sjogren′s syndrome, cold globulin hematic disease, chronic graft rejection
reaction); metabolic disease (uric acid nephropathy, hypercalcemia kidney
disease, low potassium renal disease); blood disease (multiple myeloma, light
chain deposition disease).
